Description
Raw Material Selection: Toilet tissue can be made from either virgin wood pulp or recycled paper. The choice depends on factors like cost, availability, and environmental concerns. Virgin pulp offers strength and softness, while recycled paper promotes sustainability.
Pulping: If virgin wood pulp is used, logs are debarked and chipped into small pieces. These wood chips are then cooked in a chemical solution or mechanically processed to separate the cellulose fibers. For recycled paper, the collected waste paper is sorted, cleaned, and broken down into pulp using similar methods.
Forming: The pulp is mixed with water to create a thick slurry. This mixture is fed onto a continuous mesh screen, where water drains through the screen, leaving behind a mat of intertwined fibers. As the fibers settle, they start bonding together to form a thin, wet sheet.
Pressing: The wet sheet passes through a series of rollers that press out excess water and compress the fibers. This step helps increase the density of the tissue and improve its strength.
Drying: After pressing, the partially formed tissue is fed through a drying section. Here, hot air or heated rollers evaporate the remaining moisture, leaving the tissue dry and sturdy.
Calendering (Optional): Some manufacturers may pass the dried tissue through calendering rollers to further enhance its smoothness and softness. This process can also adjust the thickness of the tissue.
Cutting and Perforating: The continuous sheet of dried tissue is cut into smaller individual sheets or perforated into rolls. The cutting and perforating machines are programmed to achieve precise dimensions and perforation patterns for optimal consumer use.
Packaging: The finished toilet tissue is then packaged into bundles, rolls, or boxes for distribution and sale. Packaging materials may include plastic wrapping, cardboard boxes, or recycled paper sleeves.
Throughout the entire manufacturing process, quality control measures are implemented to ensure that the toilet tissue meets industry standards for softness, strength, absorbency, and hygiene. Additionally, manufacturers may add fragrances, dyes, or other additives to enhance the product's appeal or functionality.
